イギリスの謎の一つは「基本的に美味しい原材料を組み 合わせて
不味い物を作り出す。」という点。
実のところ、日本人的感覚では、新鮮なタラとじゃがいも、という食材を
不味い料理に仕 上げるのは難しい。タラフライと揚げ芋を作るだろう、普通に。
想像すると旨そうだろ？
しかし、本来単なるタラフライとフライドポテトなハ ズのフィッシュアンドチップスは
本当に不味い。どうやったら不味く作れるのか不思議なぐらい不味い。
「頼むから普通にタラとポテトを揚げ て、ソースと一緒に出してくれ。」とお願いしても
やっぱり不味い。俺が家で普通に揚げれば旨い、普通の食材でもだ。

とても不思議 だが、体験すれば分かる。
ちなみにアメリカのイギリス料理屋でフィッシュアンドチップスを注文すると、
やっぱり不味いが、本国よりは旨 い。本場じゃないから少し旨くなってしまうのだ。
